چکیده
to the editor: There is currently no effective pharmacologic treatment for chronic aphasia, a frequent and incapacitating consequence of hemispheric stroke. We report the case of a 52-year-old right-handed woman, who had a stroke that affected her left insula, putamen, and superior temporal gyrus. Three years later, her speech was still restricted to stereotyped syllables, with not a single identifiable word. Language comprehension was better preserved. Because of occasional insomnia, zolpidem (10 mg) was prescribed. To the amazement of the patient and her family, ingestion of the first dose was followed by a dramatic improvement in her speech, which persisted until the patient went to bed later in the night. On the following morning, aphasia had returned at its usual level of

Persistent Psychosis after Abuse of High Dose of Zolpidem
Background: Zolpidem is a non-benzodiazepine medication which selectively affects GABAA receptors and treats insomnia. There are numerous reports of psychosis following the consumption of zolpidem all of which recovered after stopping the medication. Case Report: A 27 year old male law student, who was treated with 10 mg zolpidem due to insomnia, increased the dosage to 500 mg during 3 months. ...
متن کاملClinical and brain SPECT scan response to zolpidem in patients after brain damage.
UNLABELLED Previous reports document transient improvements after daily zolpidem (CAS 82626-48-0) in patients with brain damage. This multi-patient study evaluates the response to zolpidem in neurologically disabled patients, using 99mTcHMPAO brain SPECT scans and clinical rating scales. METHOD 23 of 41 consecutive adult patients, at least 6 months after brain damage were identified as neurol...
متن کاملThe Relationship Between Memory, Type, and Severity of Aphasia With Confrontation Naming in Post-Stroke Patients With Chronic Aphasia
Objectives: The brain’s widespread neural functions lead to aphasia in which the patients experience difficulties in cognitive and language functions. Memory, type, and severity of aphasia are associated with language and the naming process. In the current study, we investigated the relationship between memory, type, and severity of aphasia using the confrontation naming test in post-stroke pat...
متن کاملFluent Aphasia From Herpes Simplex Encephalitis
The present case report introduces a patient with fluent aphasia, anterograde amnesia and anosmia due to herpes simplex encephalitis after her first delivery. The left medial temporal lobe was one of the main areas involved. On aphasia testing she showed severe anomia on both confrontation and free recall, agraphia, alexia, repetition disorder and some auditory comprehension impairments. Therap...
متن کاملA New Electrochemical Sensor for Determination of Zolpidem by Carbon Paste Electrode Modified with SnS@SnO2NP
Zolpidem is a drug that is easily attached to the GABA receptors in the brain. This property makes it very effective for tranquilizing as well as hypnagogia. According to the advantages of electrochemical analysis like high selectivity, high sensitivity, low concentration of analyte, cost-effective, portable and easy-to-use setup, they gained high amount of attention among scientists for determ...
